Assisting in the innovation of VR/AR display technology, GoerTek brings multiple new optical solutions to CES

2025-12-26 Industry News

On January 9th, the global "technology trendsetter" CES2024 opened in Las Vegas, USA. At this exhibition, GoerTek's subsidiary GoerTek Optical Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "GoerTek") unveiled a new generation of optical display technology solutions in the fields of VR/AR, automotive electronics, micro projection, etc., including the world's first high-performance VR Pancake module using advanced COC material injection molding technology, multiple newly upgraded full-color diffraction waveguide AR display modules, etc., which help the products to achieve better display effects and are expected to promote industry upgrading.

VR field: New technology meets Pancake's high-performance requirements

The optical module using Pancake short focus folding optical technology has become the mainstream choice for VR optical display solutions in the industry due to its compatibility with the trend of lightweight VR headsets. In response to the continuously improving performance requirements of Pancake modules and relying on its deep accumulation in the field of optical displays, GoerTek Optics launched the high-performance Pancake display module Interstellar M41 at this year's CES. For the first time, GoerTek and 3M have adopted in mold injection molding technology based on COC materials on this module.

Compared to using curved surface bonding technology, the Interstellar M41 synchronously injects 3M's latest developed film into the mold, simplifying the process and providing higher freedom in lens design. This greatly reduces the surface roughness of the lens and improves the orange peel phenomenon. This technology has expanded the process route of curved film coating and provided an innovative technological iteration path for the industry.

The FOV of this module has been increased to 105 °, and ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition) coating technology can be imported according to customer customization needs, effectively reducing ghosting and significantly improving VR display effects.

In addition to the Interstellar M41 module, GoerTek also showcased two other Pancake display modules: Interstellar C31 and Interstellar P31. Both adopt industry-leading curved adhesive bonding technology and mature flat film technology in the industry. Among them, the interstellar P31 adopts ALD coating to effectively reduce ghosting and upgrade its performance.

It is reported that the Pancake display module exhibited this time can be adapted to 4K high-definition Micro OLED screens, which can meet the high performance requirements of VR display in applications such as audio-visual entertainment, video conferencing, and business office.

As the world's first manufacturer to achieve mass production of Pancake display modules, GoerTek will continue to lay out a comprehensive layout in the Pancake process, from low stress injection molding, flat pasting, curved pasting, in mold injection molding, PVD coating to ALD coating, as well as visual guidance assembly and AA assembly, to meet customers' full chain and differentiated requirements from research and development to production.

AR field: focusing on small volume, ultra high brightness, full-color display

In the field of AR optical display, the current industry mainly focuses on optical waveguide technology, exploring optical upgrades around lighter, thinner, larger field of view, full-color display, and other aspects. GoerTek Optics, with rich design and development experience in optomechanics and optical waveguides, deeply understands market demand, continuously achieves technological breakthroughs, and has developed multiple newly upgraded full-color diffractive optical waveguide display modules, focusing on features such as small size and ultra-high brightness. These advanced products that meet market demand are all exhibited at this exhibition.

Among them, the 30 ° FOV single-layer full-color diffraction waveguide display module Star E has successfully broken through the high refractive index grating processing technology, and through optimized design of grating materials and structures, it can achieve an in eye brightness of over 1000nits, light leakage of less than 13%, and significant improvement in rainbow patterns. Star E has also introduced electrochromic technology with adjustable light transmittance of 10% -90%, suitable for different lighting environments. It also uses customized nearsighted lenses to achieve a comfortable visual experience. The display module optical machine is developed based on a 0.14-inch LCoS solution, using a foldable polarizing optical architecture with a volume of less than 1cc.

GoerTek also released the industry's smallest optical machine that can adapt to large FOV optical waveguides. The optical machine adopts the latest 0.23-inch LCoS solution in the industry, with a high resolution of 1560x1200, and can adapt to 46 ° large FOV optical waveguides (upgradable to 53 ° FOV). Through polarization folding optical path design, the volume is compressed to about 1cc and the weight is about 3g. In addition, after professional optical optimization, the optical machine solves the problem of low contrast in LCoS solutions and can help AR glasses achieve better display effects, suitable for multi scene applications with large field of view angles.

Vehicle mounted and micro projection field: on-site display of actual usage effects

At this exhibition, GoerTek also showcased the PGU module PGU4620 Gen2 for automotive AR-HUD applications. Compared to the traditional PGU4620 module, this module has increased brightness by 80%, reaching 200lm, which can meet the display requirements of larger Eyebox areas; Combined with the next generation DLPC technology, it can achieve a high refresh rate of 120Hz, high contrast ratio of 1800:1, and high color gamut, making the display effect of the HUD machine even better; The module structure adopts modular design, which can quickly adjust development according to needs, shorten the HUD machine development cycle, and accelerate product launch.

GoerTek also exhibited freeform mirrors and cold mirrors that can be applied to AR-HUD. The free-form surface mirror has the advantages of large size, high precision, and high reliability, which can effectively ensure the imaging effect and mass production quality of AR-HUD; The infrared cutoff film used in the cold light mirror adopts the coating process independently developed by GoerTek Optics, which has the advantages of wide incidence rate, no color deviation, and high temperature resistance, and can effectively reduce the risk of sunlight backflow. Exhibitors can experience the actual display effect of curved mirrors and PGU modules applied to car mounted HUD machines at the exhibition site.

In the field of micro projection, GoerTek exhibited a full range of optical modules, covering different chip sizes (from 0.2 to 0.47 inches) and lens types (from ultra short focus to telephoto).

GoerTek has been developing DLP optical module since 2017, with a complete set of DLP optical module solutions ranging from optical system design, precision optical measurement to automatic assembly of components. We have achieved mass production of multiple DLP projection optical module models and accumulated rich experience in research and manufacturing. At the exhibition site, confident GoerTek also showcased a projector that uses its independently developed projector machine and has already been mass-produced. The projector has a 4K resolution and adopts the latest full-color LED light source. The lens is composed of a metal tube and a full glass lens, with a brightness of 1700lm and a contrast ratio greater than 400:1. The image has no thermal blur, and has the characteristics of clear image, bright colors, and low noise. All indicators are at the leading level in the industry, and can be used in multiple scenarios such as home, education, and conferences.

As a pioneer in the global XR industry, GoerTek will be committed to providing one-stop solutions for optical research and manufacturing in VR/AR and other fields, creating more value for customers, society, and the industry.
